AB 802

The state of California now requires commercial and some multi family buildings of 50,000-SF and above to submit annual gas and electric energy benchmarks to the state utilizing the ENERGY STAR system and submitted to the California Energy Commission. Utility companies are required to provide utility data for buildings with 4 or more utility meters, which allows for ease of utility gathering for operators and service providers.

AB 802 is likely to prompt energy efficiency retrofits as managers and owners will now be competing against other buildings on this new level with energy efficiency transparency in California's real estate market. Once owners become engaged in their energy use they begin thinking of ways to save and often make changes to building operations. Contact MEP today for more information on California AB 802 and all your energy benchmarking needs.

The City of Los Angeles and the LA Department of Building and Safety “LADBS” now require commercial and some multi family buildings of 50,000-SF and above to submit annual gas, electric and water benchmarks through the LADBS portal under the Existing Buildings Water and Energy Efficiency “EBEWE” ordinance.
