What to Expect in 2018!

MEP Energy Star Certificationr 2018 is shaping up to be a busy year at Maximum Energy Professionals "MEP". As new benchmarking and conservation policies are passed, existing efficiency legislation continues to expand, and our clients' demands for sustainability-minded engineering increases, we expect to have a prolific upcoming year. Here is a partial thumbnail sketch of the projects that will be keeping our engineers and sustainability experts busy in 2018.

State and city energy efficiency and transparency benchmarking ordinances are becoming more commonplace every year, particularly in California. California AB 802 and Los Angeles' EBEWE (Existing Building Energy & Water Efficiency) programs have both expanded in the past year. The goal of AB 802 and EBEWE is to have buildings of a certain size report their energy usage to state and city agencies. The EBEWE program, which affects Los Angeles buildings over 50,000-SF, adds water reporting for benchmarking and conservation purposes. EBEWE was enacted last year with buildings over 100,000-SF required to comply by submitting their energy and water data. MEP has assisted with dozens of these EBEWE compliance projects already. In subsequent years, more and more buildings will be required to comply with EBEWE and AB 802, as the square footage threshold will be lowered each year for both programs.

Another major endeavor that will be occupying us in 2018 is our clients' ENERGY STAR certifications. MEP has ENERGY STAR Professionals on staff with many years of experience completing hundreds of ENERGY STAR certifications each year. We are consecutive 2016 and 2017 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award winners, and we are the only winner in the Service and Product Provider category on the west coast! In the coming year we hope to expand our ENERGY STAR participation and certify more buildings than ever before. It is our goal in our partnership with ENERGY STAR to maximize energy efficiency, track utility usage, and educate our clients about energy conservation.

MEP’s Property Condition Assessment reports are performed by our Professional Engineer Glenn R. Tanner and staff. Glenn has over 25 years of experience assessing the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (M-E-P) infrastructure in many types of commercial, healthcare, hospitality and multi-family properties in the United States, Costa Rica and Mexico. We expect to be performing dozens of these reports in the coming year.
